Dortmund go top of Bundesliga

Middle East Star (IANS) Saturday 4th February, 2012

Defending Bundesliga football champions Borussia Dortmund wrapped up a hard earned 2-0 victory over Nuremberg at Easy Credit Stadium to go top of the standings.

Nuremberg staged a disciplined defence to make life difficult for Dortmund.

Three minutes into the second half, Dortmund caught Nuremberg off-guard as midfielder Sebastian Kehl slotted home a diagonal pass from the penalty area to open the scoring.

Nuremberg fought hard to find the leveller but Dortmund was able to seal the deal in the 82nd minute, owing to a goal from striker Lucas Barrios.

"It was a hard earned victory but we have shown patience. Nuremberg was very dangerous at set-piece situations," Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp was quoted as saying by Xinhua.

The defending champions climb from the second to top position with 43 points, while Nuremberg slipped from the 13th to 14th position on 21 points.
