BEIJING, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

JERUSALEM -- Israel's Ministry of Health reported 4,764 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, bringing the total infections in the country to 160,368.
It is the highest daily rise since the outbreak of the pandemic in Israel in late February, as the previous record was 4,429 registered on Sept. 10.

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazil's COVID-19 death toll surpassed 132,000 after 381 more patients died of the COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, raising the total number of fatalities to 132,006, the health ministry said Monday.
In the same period, tests detected 15,155 new cases of infection, bringing the total caseload since the start of the outbreak here to 4,345,610.

UNITED NATIONS -- Responsible leadership and good citizenship have been key determinants of COVID-19's impact, according to a UN-backed report published on Monday.
"Systems are only as effective as the people who use them," said a report titled "A World in Disorder," issued by the Global Preparedness Monitoring Board, an independent monitoring and accountability body which prepares for global health crises.

QUITO -- Ecuador on Monday lifted pandemic lockdown restrictions designed to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), including a nighttime curfew and ban on social gatherings.
The changes came as a nationwide state of emergency decreed on Feb. 29 in response to the health crisis expired at midnight.

SANTIAGO -- Chile on Monday said its COVID-19 death toll reached 12,013 after 64 more patients died of the novel coronavirus in the previous 24 hours.
According to the Ministry of Health, 1,685 new cases of COVID-19 infection in the past 24 hours also pushed the total caseload to 436,433.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong on Monday evening completed its mass COVID-19 screening program launched two weeks ago, with the participation of some 1.78 million residents in total.
Most of the specimens collected under the Universal Community Testing Program, nearly 1.72 million, had been tested by 8:00 p.m. on Monday, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government said in a statement. ■
