TEHRAN, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Friday demanded the release of an Iranian national that was arrested in Saudi Arabia.
Amir-Abdollahian made the request in a phone call with his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein. He asked Hussein to follow up on the issue and convey his message to the Saudi authorities, according to Iran's Foreign Ministry website.
The Iranian national was arrested during recent Hajj ceremonies in Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia cut diplomatic ties with Iran in early 2016 in response to attacks on Saudi diplomatic missions in Iran after the kingdom executed a Shiite cleric.
To improve bilateral relations and ease regional tension, Baghdad hosted four rounds of direct talks between Iran and Saudi Arabia last year and a fifth round in April this year.
