JERUSALEM, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- A friendly match between Juventus and Atletico Madrid scheduled in Israel on Sunday evening has been canceled due to fighting between the Israeli army and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) organization in Gaza.
The Israeli organizing company Comtecgroup and the two clubs said in separate statements on Saturday that due to the security situation in Israel, it was jointly decided not to hold the match.
The match was to be played at the 29,400-seat Bloomfield Stadium in the coastal city of Tel Aviv-Jaffa in central Israel, with most tickets already sold. In its statement, the company promised a full refund to all ticket buyers.
It was supposed to be the last preparation match for both teams before their first league matches of the season on August 15, with Juventus taking on Sassuolo in Serie A, whilst Atletico visit Getafe in La Liga.
